17 days with no game felt like forever

Cardiff City 0 vs Everton 3. On Tuesday night our lads finally took to the field once again after seventeen days without a game. Now the whole of January in general felt very long for me, well it does every year doesn’t it whilst we wait for that first pay-day after Christmas to come at the end of January. However, seventeen days not being able to watch Everton play a single match felt just as long, so it was great to watch them again on Tuesday evening.

The long delay with no game was because of our early FA Cup exit to Millwall along with the fact we were due to play Manchester City last weekend, but that game was brought forward because of City’s participation in the Carabao Cup Final.

What made the seventeen days even more painful was all the noise coming from our red friends about Champions League football and of course “this being their year” to win the Premier League. Thankfully they didn’t win as many games as they’d have liked whilst we weren’t playing. Still, just hearing them going on about it is driving me and my family up the wall. You too I suspect.

Lets just hope we put them in their place this Sunday afternoon at Goodison, a draw would be a great result at the current time but I’m praying we beat them for our own pride, but denying them three points would be brilliant as well. We certainly did them no favours when City did come to ours in our last home game on 6th February, we didn’t do ourselves any favours either to be honest in the two-nil loss. Still, if we can perform much better against the other title challengers this weekend and beat them, then I’ll take that right.

Especially after our good performance on Tuesday night, a game which could easily have been a right royal cock-up if we’d have performed badly like we have so many other times this season. The lads did good though and it was great to see our best player Sigurdsson scoring two goals against his old enemy from his Swansea playing days.

Good to see Jagielka trying too and the rest of all put in a decent enough shift I thought, Cardiff aren’t great but until recently they’d been on a good run of form. Cleaning a clean sheet away from home was very important and I do always enjoy seeing Calvert-Lewin score. Well played lads.

Marco Silva spoke after the game and said:

“We hope this is a turning point, one of our problems is that we
have
missed consistency as a team this season,”

“It was an important win with a clean sheet and our players
have performed better, but it’s just three points.”

As much as I hated not seeing my team play for so long, maybe the seventeen days off has refreshed the player’s batteries along with Silva’s focus. If so, roll on Sunday I say. Up the Toffees!
