Wolves 2 vs Everton 2. Considering the overall circumstances of the match I’d have to say yes, it was a good point to pick up away from home to start the season. There was a lot of expectation around this Wolves side, not just from their own fans, but from the media in general as well with the money they’d spent over the summer. Picking up ninety-nine points in The Championship last season is certainly not an easy thing to do and the whole club would have been looking forward to hopefully beating us.
They didn’t though, but they quite easily could have with us having skipper Jagielka sent-off five minutes before half-time. We were 1-0 up at the time, but from the resulting free-kick, which was quite obviously taken from the wrong spot, Ruben Neves equalised. Pickford should have done better but he is still young and learning, however if he’s setting walls he has to learn to trust himself.
Wolves 2 vs Everton 2
Anyway, enough about Wolves, I thought we looked solid and there was some really good performances from our lads, obviously the most outstanding performance came from our new Brazilian Richarlison. He was involved in everything in the first-half and most things in the second-half until he had to go off injured. Two goals on your Everton debut though is impressive. His first was a tap-in but he’d won the free-kick in the first place and then he was there challenging for it with Keane, luckily the ball fell loose to him. As for his second, well his finish was excellent, but it was the build up play before the goal that made it. Point deserved and we possibly could have won it. Man-of-the-Match: Richarlison
Opinion from the terraces:
Overall then, I thought it was a fair result and I put that to another supporter after the game:
“Yeah, probably was. Thought it was the sort of game we’d have crumbled in recent seasons, with them equalising straight after the red. Did well to get back in front, thought we controlled it for a fair bit after that too. Although Wolves allowed us to for too long. Centre backs both did well & Richarlison was excellent, not just for his goals. Promising. Enough to get me excited for Saturday again”
I’d agree, roll on Saturday at Goodison for our first home game of the season against Southampton.
