Everton are plotting an ambitious move for Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, according to reports from the Liverpool Echo
Following the departure of club legend Tim Howard, new Everton manager Ronald Koeman has moved quickly to secure the services of Maarten Stekelenburg for a fee of around £1 million.
However, Stekelenburg is most likely set to be used only as a backup goalkeeper and with Koeman having seemingly very little faith in Joel Robles, the Dutch manager remains in the market to bring in another custodian this summer.
Recently, the likes of Neto and Joe Hart have been linked with a move to Goodison Park and now in fresh rumors, claims have been made that Everton are currently considering an ambitious swoop for Leicester City star Kasper Schmeichel.
Schmeichel was arguably one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League last season and his contribution went a long way in helping Leicester claim a shock title victory.
It is clear to see that Schmeichel is a key figure in the Leicester side but the goalkeeper is believed to have a £17 million release clause present in his contract at the King Power Stadium.
While it would be very difficult for Everton to convince Schmeichel to pass up on the opportunity of Champions League football during the upcoming campaign, the Toffees are said to be looking to test the resolve of the Danish international by offering him an improvement on his current deal of around £35,000-per-week.
Leicester will also surely not want to lose Schmeichel but they did recently acquire the services of German international Ron-Robert Zieler and the transfer could actually prove to work out well for all the parties involved.
