Everton failed to secure the services of Andriy Yarmolenko despite putting up a satisfactory offer on the table, according to Dynamo Kiev president Ihor Surkis
Everton were widely expected to be very active in the transfer market this summer and while the Toffees did bring in a host of quality players such as Yannick Bolasie, Ashley Williams and Idrissa Gueye to Goodison Park, fans were left a bit underwhelmed with the business their side conducted.
Everton were believed to be have active during deadline day and while the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Enner Valencia did arrive to Merseyside, manager Ronald Koeman was unable to recruit the services of a high profile player.
It had been claimed that one of the players targeted by Everton during the final day of the window was Andriy Yarmolenko but evidently the transfer did not come into fruition.
Now Dynamo Kiev president Ihor Surkis has gone on to confirm that Everton were indeed interested in securing the services of Yarmolenko on deadline day and that they had put in a decent offer on the table for the attacking midfielder.
However, Surkis revealed that the transfer could not take place as the bid came too late and as a result, the 26-year-old has not joined the Premier League outfit.
Surkis told DT, “Everton submitted a bid for Yarmolenko 1 hour and 15 minutes prior to the deadline. I was satisfied with the transfer price but we did not have time to even draw up a contract. I was satisfied with the offer as long as Andriy was. Transfer bids cannot be submitted that late.”
