While Roberto Martinez’s first season in charge as Everton was certainly an overwhelming success, the real test of the Spaniard’s mettle will be during the upcoming the campaign, as he will have bear the burden of expectation from the fans as well as the media.
With the so-called top six sides possessing a luxury of riches at their disposal while Everton having to do with limited resources, it will certainly take another herculean task from Martinez and his men to replicate their success of last season.
That being said though, both Everton and Martinez are used to punching above their weight and one can be sure that the club will put up a very good show in the upcoming campaign as well.
Everton will most probably be able to keep hold of most of their key men from last season but Martinez will certainly have to reinforce the squad with a couple of additions.
The signing of Gareth Barry has already been sealed and if reports are to be believed, Bosnia & Herzegovina wonderkid Muhamed Besic could also be on his way to Goodison Park in the coming days.
Although not a household name, Besic has slowly been earning a reputation as one of the finest young holding midfielders around in Europe following his fine performances for his club side Ferencváros over the last few seasons.
The young man also made a good impression in Bosnia & Herzegovina’s World Cup campaign, appearing in all three group stage games. As a result, a host of top clubs were said to be interested in securing the services of the 21-year old.
While Besic’s arrival to Goodison Park is yet to be confirmed, if the reports are in-fact true then Martinez would have pulled off a major coup – as he managed to steal a march on a host of bigger teams to secure the midfielder’s signature allied by the fact that the Toffees are liable to pay a meagre £4million to land the Bosnian star.
A hard working box to box player, Besic would certainly suit Everton’s style of play and under the tutelage of Roberto Martinez – the young man could certainly flourish into a world beater in a couple of years’ time.
Before the Toffees faithful can get excited though, it is once again worth pointing out that the deal has not been confirmed as of yet and we will continue to keep you updated as the story develops over the next few days.
