Amid all the fanfare surrounding Romelu Lukaku’s return to Goodison Park, the signing of young Brendan Galloway has taken a back seat. Strange as it may sound though, Galloway could turn out to be as important as Lukaku in the future for the Toffees.
A promising young defender with bags of ability, Galloway is certainly a player who can go on to become world class under the guidance of Roberto Martinez and here is a closer look at whether the signing of the defender will prove to be a hit or a miss for Everton.
Value for Money – 4/5
The fee for Galloway decided by a tribunal is said to be at around £400,000 but it may increase as the young man’s former club Milton Keynes Dons have not accepted the verdict.
However, the total cost of the transfer is expected to be under £1million and for a player who has been hailed as the next Rio Ferdinand, it certainly looks like a bargain.
Galloway enjoyed a breakthrough season with MK Dons last season and although the young man made only a handful of appearances, he has been touted by many for superstardom.
Having made his debut for MK Dons at the tender age of just 15, Galloway’s talent had been apparent since a very early age and Everton have secured a potential gem on their hands.
Therefore, the amount paid for Galloway looks like a snip at the moment but only time will tell if the young man will be able to fulfill his immense potential.
Probability of making an impact – 3/5
It is certain that Galloway will not be handed too much playing time this season and perhaps may only feature in the odd cup matches. A young man who is still developing physically and mentally, Galloway has a lot to learn but he can be safe with the knowledge that he is under the good hands of Roberto Martinez.
Martinez is an advocate of allowing young players an opportunity and the 18-year old can surely have aspirations of breaking into the first team sooner rather than later.
The duo of Luke Garbutt and Ryan Ledson look the most likely candidates to be staking a claim for regular first team football and Galloway could soon join the list if he is able to impress sufficiently for the reserves.
While one may not see Galloway featuring too many times this season, it will be worth following how the young man develops over the course of the campaign.
Overall Verdict – 3.5/5
As is with the signing of any young player – only time will tell whether or not young Brendan Galloway will be a success at Everton.
While the defender certainly has the talent to become a mainstay in the Toffees’ backline in years to come, he will have to keep his head down, work hard and hope to impress Roberto Martinez sufficiently.
At the moment though, opinions are still reserved in regards to the defender being a good signing for Everton.
