Premier League side Everton are currently eyeing up a swoop for Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho, according to reports emerging out of Portugal
Since breaking into the Sporting Lisbon first team back in 2011, William Carvalho has emerged as one of the finest young midfielders around in world football and it has been no surprise whatsoever in seeing the 24-year-old being linked with a big money move to one of the top European leagues.
To further raise his stock, Carvalho played a key role in helping Portugal claim their first ever European Championship triumph this summer and it now looks all but certain that the midfielder will be leaving Sporting Lisbon for a bigger club before the start of the upcoming European season.
The Premier League seems to be the most likely destination for Carvalho and now according to reports emerging out of Portugal, ambitious Everton are keen on securing the youngster’s services.
Everton are currently in the market to sign a high profile midfielder but the Toffees have seen their pursuit for the likes of Axel Witsel and Juan Mata not progress as well as they would have liked.
As a result, manager Ronald Koeman is drawing up contingency plans and has reportedly identified Carvalho as his next target.
However, there could potentially be a huge stumbling block in Everton’s hopes of signing Carvalho as Sporting Lisbon are said to be demanding around £35 million for the midfielder, whereas the Toffees are ready to spend around only £20 million.
