Everton are on the verge of sealing a £28.5 million move for Belgian international Axel Witsel, according to reports from the Daily Mirror
The arrival of Ronald Koeman has certainly captured the imagination of the Everton fans and many believe that the Dutchman will be able to turn the Toffees into a major force in the Premier League during the coming years.
Koeman is undoubtedly a very good manager and one of the main reasons behind the excitement among the Everton supporters is the fact that the 54-year-old will be able to attract a number of high profile players to Goodison Park this summer, especially given the backing of billionaire owner Farhad Moshiri.
As a result, it has been no surprise whatsoever in seeing a number of top class players being linked with a move to Everton and now according to reports emerging from the Daily Mirror, Koeman is believed to be on the verge of making his first major signing of the summer in the form of Axel Witsel.
Witsel’s father, Thomas, had confirmed a few days ago that Everton’s interest in the midfielder was concrete and that talks were ongoing between the two parties.
Witsel Snr said: “It’s true I met with (Napoli sporting director) Cristiano Giuntoli in Brussels. It was a positive discussion. Everton’s interest is concrete, like Napoli’s, so the negotiation is ongoing. To see if the marriage happens we have to see the conditions and understand what is the best destination for the player.”
Now in a further development to the story, revelations can be made that Everton have managed to agree a fee of around £28.5 million with Zenit St. Petersburg for Witsel and if the transfer goes through, the Belgian international will be the most expensive purchase in the club’s history.
