Everton vs Manchester United Match Preview

Goodison Park

Venue: Goodison Park

Date: 12/04/2016

Kick-off: 16:00 (BST)

Match

Everton welcome Manchester United to Goodison Park on Sunday and the match is certainly one in which both teams will be desperate to claim all three points out of.

Everton’s terrible run of form continued after they suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat at the hands of Southampton last weekend and the Toffees currently find themselves in a streak of only one victory in their last eight matches.

It is clear to see that Everton now need to get back to winning ways soon and up against a struggling Manchester United as well, the Toffees could well fancy their chances this weekend.

Due to the poor run of results, both teams will surely be keen on earning victory when they square off against each other on Sunday at Goodison Park and it will be interesting to see which side is able to come out on top.

Everton Team News

McCarthy

The likes of Muhamed Besic, Arouna Kone and Matthew Pennington are all struggling with injuries ahead of the clash and look set to be ruled out for Sunday’s encounter.

As a positive, Everton have been handed a huge boost with the news that James McCarthy could be available for the clash but whether the Republic of Ireland star will start is an entirely different question.

Ronald Koeman is likely to persist with his preferred backline consisting of Seamus Coleman, Ashley Williams, Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines on the day, in front of goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.

In midfield, the trio of Idrissa Gueye, Gareth Barry and Tom Cleverley are expected to start while the attacking trio of Yannick Bolasie, Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley should start. The likes of Kevin Mirallas, Enner Valencia and Aaron Lennon remain the other options to choose from.

Probable Lineups

Everton (Probable XI): Stekelenburg; Baines, Jagielka, Williams, Coleman; Gueye, Barry, Cleverley, Barkley, Bolasie; Lukaku

Manchester United (Probable XI): De Gea; Darmian, Jones, Rojo, Valencia; Carrick, Pogba, Herrera, Mata, Mkhitaryan; Ibrahimovic

Prediction

Manchester United squared off against Everton three times last season and the Red Devils were able to claim a victory on all three occasions.

Heading into Sunday’s clash though, it is difficult to ascertain which side is the favourite. Both teams are struggling with form at the moment but United perhaps have been playing a bit better and they might just have enough quality to emerge victorious on the day with a narrow margin.

Everton 1 – 2 Manchester United
