Evertonians at the World Cup: Tim Howard

After enjoying a fine Premier League campaign, it is no surprise to see Everton well represented at the World Cup. No less than seven Everton players have been called up by their respective countries and here is an analysis of how much of an impact they will probably have at the world stage.

Tim Howard is a veteran at the international stage, having amassed over a 100 caps and participated in two previous World Cups. The 2014 World Cup in Brazil will probably be his last one and he would certainly want to bow out with a bang.

The 35-year old has proven this season that he still remains one of the best goalkeepers around after another magnificent campaign with Everton. Keeping 16 clean sheets in 37 appearances, Howard played a pivotal role in Everton’s fine 5th place finish and he will be looking to take his fine form into the World Cup as well.

Probability of making an impact at the World Cup

Howard will be undisputed number one choice between the sticks for United States and with his side placed a group consisting of Germany, Ghana and Portugal; the experienced custodian will certainly have his work cut out. Playing behind a dodgy looking United States defence will not help matters as well.

However, Howard is a goalkeeper who transmits confidence into his defenders and will surely play a big role in marshalling his backline during the World Cup. While United States’ chances of making into the knock-out phases look bleak, expect Howard to put in another fine display.
