After fantastic loan spells at West Bromwich Albion and Everton over the last two years, young Romelu Lukaku had become hot property in world football.
As a result, it was no surprise to see a host of top clubs lining up to secure the services of the 21-year old over the summer. To the shock of many though, Lukaku elected to make a return to Everton on a permanent deal instead.
Admittedly, Everton did shell out a whopping £28million to secure the services of Lukaku but for the Toffees’ to be able to lure the striker to Goodison Park despite interest from a host of financially powerful clubs was seen as a major coup.
However, it has now been claimed by Lukaku’s brother, Jordan, that rather than Everton’s lucrative offer – it was him who played the biggest role in the strikers’ transfer to Merseyside.
Jordan, who himself is a promising young footballer, stated that if he had made a move to Italian side Torino – his older brother would also have made a move to Turin by joining Juventus instead of Everton.
At the end, Jordan’s move to Torino did not come into fruition and as a result, Lukaku chose to join Everton.
Jordan said, “If I had signed with Torino then Romelu may now not be at Everton but at Juventus. We knew that Juve were interested in Lukaku, but it was not so concrete.
“Juventus had reported they wanted Romelu. It would have been nice if we had both gone together to Turin and played in the derby. We could have had an apartment together. It would have been good living with Romelu.”
Lukaku has not been in the best of forms since joining Everton on a permanent deal but is slowly improving during the past few weeks, playing a key role in the Toffees’ recent revival.
