Lets just hope it’s not the same old from Everton next season. Yes there is a lot of change currently happening at our football club, hopefully for the better. Nothing can be worse than the last few years under Martinez though.
New owner Farhad Moshiri came in earlier this year after taking a majority share of 49.9 stake in the club and has taken his time assessing what needs to be done at the club. That for me is a good thing, he didn’t just come in changing thinks straight away and demanding this be done etc. He weighed up Martinez and what he was doing at the club, took note of Everton fans opinions and seemed to give everyone a chance in what they were doing.
In the end though, it was inevitable that Martinez had to go and no surprise the club made the call and sacked him before their final league game of the season. Whether they initially planned to just sack him at the end of the season when it was all over is another question? However, after two more dreadful away performances against Leicester and Sunderland – who both scored three past us. The decision was made.
I myself 100% agree with the timing of this as well, yes maybe he should of gone earlier – I think most fans would say the same. Getting rid of him before the final game of the season and more importantly the final home game of the season was just a relief to nearly all our fans.
It meant they were coming to Goodison Park not talking about Martinez again and not being worried at when/if he might finally go. The decision was thankfully made though and the fans arrived for the Norwich game talking about the future and who their new manager might be. Rather than cursing Martinez and there being more rumblings and groans from the terraces yet again.
There was already just a sense of relief and cheer straight away, even before the game kicked off. Then by the end, having destroyed already relegated Norwich 3-0, the fans went home with hope for the new season. Not having to think about what was still to come over the summer.
Exactly one month later and a new manager has arrived. Welcome Mr Ronald Koeman. I think a lot of people are very happy. Yes there were rumours of Mourinho and Quique Sanchez Flores, but I don’t think they were ever realistic. Getting Ronald Koeman though for me is an excellent choice and I now can’t wait for the season to start one again.
