Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has slammed Everton’s terrible performance in the 5-0 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Everton headed into the clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday with a quiet sense of confidence following their impressive 2-0 victory over West Ham United the previous weekend but the match turned out to be a painful experience for the Toffees.
Going up against a rampant Chelsea side in wonderful form, Everton were completely outthought and outplayed in every area of the pitch and they eventually succumbed to a terrible 5-0 defeat on the night.
In truth, Everton could potentially have conceded double figures and following the game, manager Ronald Koeman has been left thinking what went so horribly wrong.
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes had been following the game very closely and in his analysis, the 41-year-old absolutely ripped into Everton’s insipid performance on the night.
Scholes told the BT Sport, “Koeman will be scratching his head, he’ll be wondering what has happened here. They have just been absolutely annihilated. You associate them with being good in possession, they weren’t good at that. They looked an old team, they looked slow, really sluggish.
“There’s no real excuse for that. There’s no European football to worry about. You could slag Everton off all day but, on the other hand, Chelsea were sensational. It was as good football as you’ll see.”
