Everton legend Tim Cahill has stated that he would like for Wayne Rooney to make a return to Goodison Park over the summer
Rooney left Everton for Manchester United back in the summer of 2004 under acrimonious circumstances and the striker was vilified by the fans whenever he made a return to Goodison Park as an opponent.
However, the hate towards Rooney has somewhat dissipated in recent years and the England skipper was even given a warm welcome by the Everton fans when he participated in Duncan Ferguson’s testimonial earlier on in the season.
At 30, Rooney still remains a key player for Manchester United but many feel that the striker is no longer the force he used to be and has declined dramatically over the last few years.
As a result, there has been a lot of talk that Rooney could leave Old Trafford at the end of the current campaign and a lucrative move to China has been seen on the cards for the all time leading goal scorer for England.
In somewhat of a crazy suggestion though, Everton club legend Tim Cahill has gone on to urge the Toffees to bring back Rooney to Goodison Park this summer.
Taking to social media website Twitter, Cahill posted,
Need to bring back @WayneRooney home where he belongs @Everton ???

Cahill wants Rooney back at Everton
While Rooney could well do a very good job at Everton, the move is surely wishful thinking on the part of Cahill as the Toffees most certainly would not be able to afford the striker’s humungous weekly wages of around £300,000.
That being said, stranger things have happened in football over the years and it will be interesting to see if indeed Cahill’s wish are granted in the foreseeable future.
