Everton grabbed a vital away win at Craven Cottage to boost our hopes of pipping Arsenal to a Champions League place. The result left Fulham rock bottom of the table and in serious danger of relegation, but the Blues are looking up and are hot on the heels of Arsenal.
The home side battled hard and by all accounts their display was much better than hey have produced in recent weeks. However, Roberto Martinez made crucial second half substitutions that changed the game with Mirallas and Naismith scoring the goals that secured the win.
This was a resolute performance from the team and in my opinion this is a game we would not have won last season. We seem to have an extra dimension in recent weeks and the squad is just about big enough to bring on players who can change games and make a difference.
I don’t want to get ahead of myself and start making wild predictions, but I have to say that I am starting to be cautiously optimistic of exceeding expectations and sneaking into the top 4. Arsenal remain favourites but based on current form they are starting to stutter and have a few injuries to key players. We’re on a fantastic run and seem to be capable of nicking results like this against determined opponents.
The home game on April 6th will be key of course. If we win that, and there’s no reason we shouldn’t, I will really start to believe…
